This past weekend we were in Owensboro, and it just so happened that the church I grew up in was having their baby dedication on Sunday. So, considering we're not a member of a church here in Cincinnati, we decided to have her dedicated while we were home.
Since becoming a mother, I have realized that this new role is by far the most intense job I've ever had. I find it extremely humbling that God chose me, out of all the women in the world, to be Aubrey's mother. It's my responsibility to not just provide nourishment, safety, protection, and well-being -- but to teach her about her Creator, to help her discover God's purpose for her life, to nurture her passions, and ultimately train her to be a warrior for Christ.
Despite the enormity of the task before Daniel and me, we pray that God would guide our every step in raising this sweet, little girl.
Here are the lyrics to a song that I listened to when I was pregnant. I cried then, and I cry now as I read them.
(If you scroll to the very bottom of the blog, I posted the song if you'd like to have a listen for yourself.)
Find Your Wings
By Mark Harris
It's only for a moment you are mine to hold
The plans that heaven has for you
Will all too soon unfold
So many different prayers I'll pray
For all that you might do
But most of all I'll want to know
You're walking in the truth
And If I never told you
I want you to know
As I watch you grow
Chorus:
I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings
May passion be the wind
That leads you through your days
And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way
May there be many moments
That make your life so sweet
Oh, but more than memories
Chorus:
I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings
It's not living if you don't reach for the sky
I'll have tears as you take off
But I'll cheer as you fly
And here are just a handful of people who are all "dedicated" to Aubrey (who is currently completely fascinated with her feet):
