Friday Funsies FUNK

It's been a not-so-fun week over here.

I'll spare you all the whiny details, but I will tell you that it has involved a toddler with a nasty cold/pink eye/teething (4 molars at once)/super short naps/tireless nights.

The cherry on top is that Daniel is working all weekend too. BOO!

But amidst this rather rotten week, there have been some intermittent smiles and laughs. There was even some singing caught on tape.

So, to end on a good note (no pun intended)...here's the one and only Aubrey, performing her special version of "Jesus Loves Me".

P.S. There is a moment when she accidentally "poots" during her solo. It isn't audible, but see if you can tell when it happens...

(You can tell she's cutting teeth from all that drool on her chin!)

Happy stinkin' Friday, everyone! ;)

Wit's End

On Sunday, Aubrey woke up at 1:02 a.m. -- no one got a moment's rest until close to 4 a.m. Talk about sheer misery...ugh...

(As many of you know, we've been fighting sleeping battles for the better part of 2 weeks now.)

When Aubrey woke up "for good" on Sunday morning at 6:40 -- she walked into our room, grabbed my devotional from the desk, and slid the book to Daniel who was groggily getting ready for work (yes, poor guy, he worked ALL weekend on little sleep.).

Daniel opened it to the current date, and he read the day's devotional to us all...

Wit's End

"At their wit's end, they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out." (Ps. 107:27, 28).

{The rest of the devotional is at the bottom of the post.}

*******

I think we all wanted to shout a resounding "AMEN!", which got me thinking...

I know Daniel and I are feeling at our "wit's end", but Aubrey is probably at her "wit's end" too.

If Aubrey could write this post, I think hers would be something like this:

So, you all know I've been having some sleeping issues with Momma and Daddy. I wake up at night (for whatever reason: dirty diaper/bad dream/thirsty/gums throbbing from the four teeth that have decided to come in all at once/etc.), I cry-out, and nothing. So, I do what any normal person would do: I throw everything out of my bed and scream and cry even harder. I can sometimes coax Daddy out of bed (apparently he still has a heart, Momma seems to be totally hardened) and have him rock me. I even pretend to be asleep when he does this sometimes, well, until he tries to put me back into that cage they call a crib.

You know, it's actually not even really about the sleep. You see, for the past couple of months, things have been different around here. It's like those two think they are the boss. That they are the ones running this show. Ummm, hello, were they not at the hospital September 17th, 2008? It's like they totally forgot I was born to rule the world. Now it's "NO" this and "NO" that. Don't they know who they're talking to?!

And get this, now when I go up to Momma or Daddy because I want/need something they tell me I will have to wait until they are finished with what they're doing. Can you believe the nerve of these two?! Telling ME to wait?!

And if Momma puts one more carrot, pea, broccoli, or any other vegetable on my plate, so help me God...I mean, you'd think she would have gotten the point by now: I. Don't. Like. Vegetables. But no, there they are on my plate at every meal (well, except for breakfast, which honestly I wouldn't put it past her to start doing at some point!). You should see her face when I swipe them off my plate onto the floor -- it's classic. Actually, it's one of the happier moments of my day. It's seriously hilarious -- it gets me every time. Haha...(just thinking about it makes me laugh!)

And the bottle. Oh, the bottle. If I hear Momma complain one more time about those dad-gum bottles... Yes, I don't mind drinking my beverages from a "big girl" cup -- heck, I will only drink my water and juice from them, but milk? No way. It just tastes better out of a nice, warm bottle. I probably get this from Daddy. He says nothing beats a cold, glass-bottled Coca-Cola. So see, bottle drinking is genetic. I can't help how God made me, now can I?

Oh, and by all means, don't get me started on my favorite TV show: Sesame Street. It's awesome, and I love it. Why can I not watch it all day long? Could someone please tell me why? Momma tries to tell me why, but I can't stop pitching a fit long enough to hear the explanation. I've shown them both that I can count, I know my letters, all my colors, all the common shapes, all my body parts, I sing, I dance, I read books, I have an extensive vocabulary for someone my age, etc. A little TV never hurt anyone, right? Well, Momma says it's one show a day. Period. Ugh...she is so unfair. Talk about an "Oscar the Grouch!" -- I live with one!

Between the two of them, I'm about at my WIT'S END!

{This Kodak moment came about that day Momma let me have some powdered donuts. Well, I wasn't quite finished with those sugary delights, and she put them away! She said I had "had enough" -- doesn't she know I tell her when I've "had enough"?!}

I keep telling/reminding myself that I just need to get through this week, because starting Saturday I'll get to see my Zubie, Grammy, and Pop Pop for a whole week! Now those people know how to treat a Princess!

*******

So, if you're feeling frustrated, defeated, or at your "wit's end" hopefully the remainder of the devotional will give you some much-needed encouragement.

Are you standing at "Wit's End Corner,"
Christian, with troubled brow?
Are you thinking of what is before you,
And all you are bearing now?
Does all the world seem against you,
And you in the battle alone?
Remember--at "Wit's End Corner"
Is just where God's power is shown.

Are you standing at "Wit's End Corner,"
Blinded with wearying pain,
Feeling you cannot endure it,
You cannot bear the strain,
Bruised through the constant suffering,
Dizzy, and dazed, and numb?
Remember--at "Wit's End Corner"
Is where Jesus loves to come.

Are you standing at "Wit's End Corner"?
Your work before you spread,
All lying begun, unfinished,
And pressing on heart and head,
Longing for strength to do it,
Stretching out trembling hands?
Remember--at. "Wit's End Corner"
The Burden-bearer stands.

Are you standing at "Wit's End Corner"?
Then you're just in the very spot
To learn the wondrous resources
Of Him who faileth not:
No doubt to a brighter pathway
Your footsteps will soon be moved,
But only at "Wit's End Corner"
Is the "God who is able" proved.

Do not get discouraged; it may be the last key in the bunch that opens the door. --Stansifer

And something Daniel and I keep telling/reminding ourselves...

This too shall pass!

Apparently I've been slacking off...

This morning Daniel asked, "Hey, what's up with you not updating the blog!?"

Well...I don't have a super good reason, but here are just a few of my excuses...

Blog to Book:
I've been working on getting our blog into book form. I'm starting from 2008...it's taking awhile, as you can imagine.

*Feel free to pass along any other sites that make this process easier. I've been using blurb.com, but I have also heard of blog2print.com, and bookemon.com.

Babysitter Swap:
Our playgroup is trying out a "Babysitter Swap". It's pretty simple: each month you're paired up with a mom/kiddo. You watch their little one (or little ones, when twins are involved) for a couple of hours one day and then they watch your little one for a couple of hours the next week.

I think what has been the most fun in trying this, is just seeing the difference between girls and boys at this age.

When we had cute, little Lauren over the girls were simply precious together. Aubrey calls Lauren "La La" and she calls Aubrey "Aubie". I just melt watching the sweetness between these two!

Lauren preparing a delicious meal.Aubrey chatting away on the phone. And then the boys...
Jake & Jack!
(or Deek & Dack, as Aubrey calls them)
Aubrey wasn't so sure about the rowdiness and the banging of toys. Finally she had enough and out came those pointy, little fingers -- one for each of the boys. What can I say, the girl knows how to boss!
Is this not the cutest mischievous face you've ever seen?!One thing is for sure, these boys sure have that sweet, innocent look down pat!
But seriously, the boys were great and Aubrey has had a blast with all her "guests" coming over.

Sidenote:
To all the lovely mothers of multiples out there reading this: There should be an additional holiday in honor of you in addition to the annual Mother's Day. Honestly...

Teething:
Oh, and Aubrey's teething (4 molars to be exact...). And judging by the size of her front teeth, these are going to be gargantuan boulders! Daniel and I laugh and say she decided to forgo baby teeth altogether and just jumped straight to her adult teeth.

Her pearly whites are big, there's no denying it, but I think she wears them well...

And, do I dare say, teething hasn't gotten Aubrey too "down in the mouth"?
Sorry, horrible pun wasn't it?

Well, at least someone thinks I'm hilarious...

So I guess that wraps things up for now.
I promise to be a better blogger, apparently this thing doesn't write itself.

(Psst, psst: Daniel--my love, you can author a post or two, you know...)

Now that she's a BIG girl...

We had Aubrey's 1-year check up yesterday.

One thing is certain: we have a BIG girl on our hands!

Weight: 22 lbs. 7 ozs. (75 percentile)
Length: 32.5 inches (off the charts)

Now that she's a whole YEAR old, we can do fun things like face forward in the car seat, drink whole milk, and move more toward table foods. We just need to get some more teeth in that rather large mouth of hers -- as of now there are only two little teethies in there. She's about to get her top two as I type this, and boy do I wish they'd hurry up and get here!

Oh, and the FOUR shots her tender, little thighs had to endure yesterday haven't helped matters either.

Poor Aubrey...it sure is tough growing up!

Sophie and the French Conspiracy

Leave it to the French to create a teething toy for $20 {give or take a few francs after shipping and all is said and done}.

Now don't get me wrong, I love the French. I do. But when Sophie arrived I will admit, I was a tad disappointed.

I don't know what it is about the French, but if I see that something "originated" in France I immediately think it's fabulous. I'm starting to wonder if there's a single French bébé roaming the cobblestone streets of Paris with this prized giraffe. Part of me doubts it. Those cheeky Frenchies are probably sipping on their mega-caffeine induced espresso partnered with their 8th cigarette of the morning laughing as Sophie passes by in the arms of a child. I can almost hear their thick accents pompously scoffing as they mumble under their breath, "Ha! AMERICANS!"

Maybe I was disappointed in Sophie because the teething toys I've purchased in the good ol' U-S-of-A {more than likely made in China} are hard plastic. Sophie is soft rubber and squeaks when you squish her head or body.

Daniel summed it up perfectly when he said, "This is a glorified dog toy!"

And he's right. It even has that "dog-toy-rubber" smell.

Aubrey isn't a huge fan of Sophie yet. I'm hoping that changes soon, because as of now, this giraffe just sits on the floor in random places with that smug European look on her face. I'm pretty sure Aubrey's about to cut her top two teeth, so surely Sophie will become much more appealing in the days ahead.

Until then, I will continue to encourage Aubrey to play with her. We give the traditional European greeting with a kiss on each cheek followed by a hearty "BONJOUR!" Still, our American girl either throws Sophie callously to the ground or just gives her the cold shoulder.

I'm not saying Sophie is euro trash -- I know tons of babies who LOVE her unconditionally, especially during those dreaded teething periods. With Aubrey, however, I'm thinking maybe I should have just moseyed on over to the pet store instead. Perhaps she would be more likely to warm up to Henrietta, the bikini chicken.

Now that's chic, n'est pas?

Homeowners!

To celebrate the closing on our house in Oklahoma today (via mail), we all headed over to Graeters (amazing ice cream founded in Cincinnati, OH).

It feels really weird to own a home but not live in it. We'll be resting our heads at our new address in two weeks. I can't wait!

Here's Daniel enjoying his Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake (note the baby claw in the shot...):

Aubrey was getting a little peeved that all she got was a complimentary plastic cup:Daniel decided to share (she can't drink from a straw, so she really just chewed on it):

By the way, Aubrey is officially teething. We're all suffering over here. I don't think I've been thankful enough for Aubrey's 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. schedule. It's like when you get sick and you realize how you took "feeling good" for granted. If this tooth doesn't "break through" soon, I'm going to pull out all of mine and glue them to her gums!
