Gone Fishin'

Sunday afternoon we loaded up some fishing poles, picked up some live bait, tossed some fold-out chairs in the back, and drove to Zubie's lake.

You get a line, I'll get pole, honey...
You get a line, I'll get a pole, babe...
(Anyone know/remember that song? We sang it the whole way there.)

Once we finally arrived, Aubrey had conked out in the backseat.
I stayed in the car to let her catch a few zzzzs while the rest of the gang made their way to the lake.
Apparently my dad tossed his line in the water and VOILA! caught a fish lickety-split.
I wouldn't have believed it if they hadn't texted me a picture:

So I woke up my sleeping beauty, and we made our way to the lake.
We just knew Aubrey would catch a big one...

But nothing happened...

So she tried fishing with Aunt Mel...

And with Pop Pop...

Then she just watched Grammy and Pop Pop fish for a bit...

I decided to spice things up and tried fishing from an unlikely spot...

This wasn't the brightest idea I've ever had.
My hook got snagged on the end of the wood as I was reeling it in (how did I think that would NOT happen?!). I had my dad come hold my pole while I tried to walk the 1, maybe 2, inch thick wooden planks. It was no use. Pop Pop cut the line and took my pole. And there I was...just rocking out in the middle of my bad idea...

So what do you do when you find yourself stranded in the middle of an abandoned dock?
You strike a pose, that's what!

Finally realizing that VOGUE'ing wasn't the answer and that I'd have to eventually walk the plank, so to speak, I decided to hop (or hobble) to it. Everyone thought I was sure to fall in, and honestly, I had mentally accepted that fate as well. But I made it to land without a splash, despite everyone's lack of confidence...

Of course, I lost my fishing privileges after my shenanigans, so I perched my dry rear-end in the shade with my little catfish.

About 10 minutes (if that) later, Aubrey decided she was ready to go back to the car for several reasons:
1. She was hot.
2. The grass was too itchy.
3. She didn't like worms.
4. Her pole was too heavy.
5. The fish weren't biting.
6. Any other reason you could possibly think of...

Since fishing is no fun with a whiny toddler, I escorted the munchkin to the car.
Then...2 seconds later...another text pops up:

SON OF A GUN!

Once again Aubrey and I hustled it back down to the lake to see the latest catch.

Even though she didn't reel in a big one, I'd say Aubrey ended the day with quite a great catch!
Definitely a keeper! :)
